Arkady
Alexeev, born in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1937, has spent many
years studying European languages and history. He graduated from the
Leningrad Herzen Institute, specializing in English and French, and
then taught English there.
Since arriving in America in 1975, he has been teaching Russian and history. In
1986 he got his PhD at the University of California, Berkeley, and
has been teaching Russian as well as history there ever since. He
began his literary work with translations from Russian and French,
wrote a historical play and newspaper articles. He has always been
fascinated by French history and in 1999 - 2001 travelled to
Italy, France and Spain to visit places associated with Giulio
Mazarini's life.
